Pollen carries the male spores of flowers. It is fine, powdery
and sticky. Pollen comes in many colours. The bees gather
it from flowers, carry it in their pollen baskets and store
it in combs in the hive for food. Pollen is the colony’s only
source of protein, as honeybees require incredible amounts of energy to fly on the average at 15 miles per hour and between as many as 1,200 flowers in one flight from the hive. |
