Honeybees have been long regarded
as models of industry and purity. Pure Beeswax is a natural
product that is secreted from the wax glands of honeybees
as they go about their business of producing and storing
honey in the hive. Beeswax holds a delightful floral scent
that is pleasing to all. All Beeswax has a high melting point
and holds great value as a long burning candle wax. 100%
Pure Beeswax candles have a clean hot and bright flame that
helps to remove toxins and impurities from the air. When
lit, they do not drip and are a tonic for relaxing.
BEESWAX
CANDLES
Candles,
one of the earliest sources of light, have played a crucial
role in history. Evidence of candles or a similar
illuminating devices like torches and fire baskets, dates
back to as early as 3000 BC.
Beeswax
was one of the first ingredients used for making candles;
recognized since ancient Roman times. Beeswax burns
very slowly and smells deliciously sweet.
The
honeybees produce beeswax from wax glands on the sides
of their body and use it to create "cells" to
store their honey in. Its colour will vary from white
to yellow, by the flower and pollen sources that the bees
make their honey from. It possesses a subtle aroma,
the fragrance of honey ingrained with other scents present
in a bee hive. The demand for beeswax exceeds the
supply in most years. On the average, eight pounds
of honey are consumed by the bees for each pound of wax
made by the colony. A large amount of the available
beeswax in used in cosmetics and in many waxes and polishes.
We at Annie's
Apitherapy use only 100% natural beeswax and all cotton
wick in our Candles. Our was that we used in our
candles has been refined by filteration (No Chemical Bleaching).
Beeswax
will naturally form a dusty coating over time called Bloom. Bloom,
as it is referred to, rises to the surface of a candle
when some of the low melting componets of the wax migrate
to th surface of the candle. The bloom is easily
removed by wiping the candle with a soft cloth or, use
a hair dryer for about 15 seconds, you can also run the
candle under warm water (but not too hot).
BURNING
PROPERTIES:
Beeswax
candles are naturally dripless and smokeless. Beeswax
candles tend to have a longer burntime than candles make
from other substances. Always use caution when burning
candles to prevent fires! Never leave a burning candle
unattended. Candles that are not held vertical and
stable may burn on one side only or drip wax. All
pillars should be in a container to prevent wax damage.
BENEFITS
OF BEESWAX VS. PARAFFIN
Pure
Beeswax is one of nature's most perfect products. Prized
since ancient times, fragrant beeswax candles burn longer
and cleaner than ordinary wax candles. In fact, pure
beeswax has the highest melting point of any known wax. Its
slow, smokeless flames gives off more light and heat and
other waxes and there's no dripping. Beeswax has
a sweet, natural fragrance all its own. When burning
beeswax it produces negative ions that actually remove
toxins and impurities from the air.
-
Whenever you light your candle, make sure the wick is trimmed
to the proper length, 1/4" or so works best and prevents
the holder from overheating and cracking.
- When pillar
candle is fully extinguished, pour off excess liquid wax
into a nonflamable container (tin can will do). With
a knife or sharp tool, trim outside edges on the top of
candle down to height of the top of the wick. Or
if a soft wall around the edge of the candle, pour out
the melted wax and push the walls into the pool of wax
to very effectively adjust the height of the wick.
-
Beeswax candles whould be put out by dunking the wick into
the pool of liquid wax and staightening it up again (for
a dunk stick you can use a chopstick, a pencil, etc.). Or
use a candle snuffer to put out your candle. Never
blow out a beeswax candle. The cotton
wicks we put into each of these candles, will continue
to smolder if blown out. Smoldering can char the
wick and inhibit proper burning. (Do not use your
fingers to put out the flame as these candles burn much
hotter)
- Store candles in a cool dark place to prevent
fading.
- A nylon stocking will wipe off fingerprints and
restore shine.
- Burn pillars for three hours at a time
to get full use of the wax and avoid drowing the wick.
-
Rotate pillars frequently and keep the wick trimmed to
1/4" to allow the pillar to burn straight down the
center of the candle.
- A few drops of water at the bottom
of your votive holder will make wax removal easy.
- Keep
candles away from drafts and ceiling fans to avoid uneven
burning and smoking.
- Candles should be kept level and
straight for even burning to prevent dripping. - Curred,
aged beeswax candles last longer as do candles stored in
a freezer before use, will last longer.
-
Never leave burning candles unattended. Keep out
of reach of children. Remove any potential flamable
material from the vicinity of candle.
